This weekend I had the complete pleasure of attending one of the Skirt Club parties in London. The Skirt Club is an underground community for ‘girls who play with girls’ – held at a private house in Notting Hill, it was quiet unlike anything I’ve been to before – which coming from me, is really saying something.
The Skirt Club was set up in 2014 by ex-Journalist Geneviève LeJeune, having attended “play parties” with a male ex. She soon realised she was doing things for his pleasure, not her own. ‘Sexual empowerment is not about turning your boyfriend on with another girl’ she says. ‘It’s about doing what excites you’.
Designed by women for women, Skirt Club promotes glamour; free-flowing champagne, burlesque performers and… much more. Away from the prying eyes of men, Skirt Club parties are designed to facilitate one night of consensual experimentation – no consequences, no questions.
All the guests share a girl-on-girl interest and no men are allowed.
- This club is intended for bisexual girls, often members are in a relationship.
- Members must be approved.
- Girls only. Leave your man at home, relay your stories on return.
- No cameras or photography
And from there, the rest is pretty much up to you.
I wasn’t quite sure what would be on the cards when I arrived at the venue, so was pleasantly surprised to see that the calibre of women was far above and beyond what I had expected. The hosts were really welcoming, gifting me with my own gold key as a newbie and the guests, with a mix of ages and backgrounds, came across as educated, well turned out and sexy – think La Perla over Anne Summers and expensive evening wear with a hint of leg over tacky red lace.
The evening began with an hour or so of networking and enjoying the free-flowing champagne and lychee martinis. After which, a belly dancer (the theme was Arabian Nights) performed to the guests and the atmosphere become more flirty (thank you ‘free-flowing champagne) In order to get the ball rolling a game of spin the bottle was used to up the tempo a bit, and, despite not being the most subtle of ways to stoke the initial fires of passion, I could see it was used as a bit of a game changer – initiating ‘play’ without anyone having to make the first move.
It didn’t take long after that (and a few shots of tequila off a willing naked volunteer – some were more game than others) for the guests to get the gist of the evening and from there, there was barely a corner of the house – (which was amazing btw, it was a tough call keeping my eye on the game and not the fabulous House of Hackney carpet up the entire staircase *insert rug joke here*)
The atmosphere and tempo of the evening from there was highly amorous and, interestingly, very relaxed and non threatening. The idea of a girl on girl sex party with 40+ women could, to some, feel a bit intimidating – however, in reality, it really did feel like a ‘safe’ place (cringe – I hate that expression, but that’s really what it was) for novices to explore and more experienced ladies to have a bloody good evening, with other open-minded, sexually adventurous women.
It wasn’t tacky or full on and there was a sense of mutual respect between the guests. Those who wanted to play were able to and those who preferred to watch or stay ‘social’ in the lounge area downstairs were equally free to do so. The Skirt Club, whilst being a highly erotic environment for women to have some unadulterated fun, was also an event unlike any other I’ve come across – super sexy yet unintimidating, risqué yet relaxed.
Would I recommend it? Yes, absolutely – whether you are bi-sexual, bi-curious or just curious full stop, it totally delivers … and they don’t half know how to make a mean lychee martini.
Hot sex and hard liquor – now, that’s my kind of party.
