Last night I had an absolutely awesome time at the launch party if Good Deed Dating, an evening of Prosecco around a camp fire *in the middle of London* at the fantastic Camley Street Nature Reserve in Kings Cross, meeting some brilliant people and hearing more about, in my opinion, one of the most innovative ideas to hit the UK dating scene in a long time.
Hannah Whitehead, the founder of the site, told me more about the intent behind Good Deed Dating and exactly what singles can expect from getting involved.
“Our mission is to blend good deeds with great dates, bringing together kind hearted single people to engage in volunteering activities whilst meeting new like minded companions. We plant the seed of a common goal and watch meaningful relationships blossom.
Volunteering is the perfect way to meet likeminded people, so we’re pioneering a whole new approach to dating where single people take a fun and proactive role in shaping their relationships through engaging with their communities. We take the pressure and awkwardness out of dating by shifting the spotlight off individuals, and encouraging groups of fantastic people to work together for a common goal. If romance blossoms, they’ll have a great story to tell. If not, they’ll still know that they made a real difference, by doing something amazing for their community.”
Good Deed Dating isn’t just about matchmaking either, as part of their commitment to supporting the amazing work of community organisations and projects, they donate 25% of their profits to their partner charities. They spread the love through doing good and I for one think it’s an absolutely brilliant idea.
Anyone who has been dating for a while will know how draining it can be going on endless online dates with people who you have little chemistry with, or are nothing like they came across on their profile – this completely turns that on its head and, not only puts you in a situation where you are doing something enriching for yourself and others, but also in an environment where you really could meet genuine like minded people in a much more natural way.
So whether you’re interested in volunteering, spending time with new people, meeting someone special or all three, this is the way forward for you!
