Dating apps seem to be getting more advanced day on day at the moment, from their speed, design, functionality and now thanks to Badoo, the world’s largest dating network, the addition of video to online dating profiles.
And I’ll be really interested to see if it takes off, not least of all because of the sudden popularity of apps like Snapchat and use of mini GIFs, allowing people to introduce video into their social media.
The new video-in-profile feature allows users to determine the unique personality traits, interests and skills of potential matches by watching short video clips. Now Badoo users are able to evaluate prospective matches by more than just profile photos and descriptive language, because attraction isn’t two dimensional.
The video-in-profile feature lets users upload 15 second video clips captured directly through their iOS or Android smartphone. Each video is assessed by one of Badoo’s 5,000 moderators before being pushed live to ensure it is appropriate. Video allows users to demonstrate the way they move, speak and laugh helping to portray personality traits that do not come across in still photo
Badoo spokeswoman Joey Hadfield says, “With the addition of video, daters can get creative and show off their sense of humor, their wonderfully sophisticated British accent, tennis skills, or even their twerking skills. When you go on a date, you know within seconds if you like a person’s energy, and if you don’t, you’re still stuck there all night. Video gives you a much better feel for who people are before you agree to meet them.”
Will it work? Who knows, I for one, struggle with perfecting a decent profile picture let alone a video, but, if the popularity of video selfies online are anything to go by I don’t doubt it will be the next big thing!
